How much does beach parking cost on Florida's Space Coast?

It depends on the town. Cocoa Beach charges $6 per hour or $25 per day at city lots. Brevard County beach parks are free. Satellite Beach and Indialantic run their own permit programs.

One of the first things that catches new Brevard County residents off guard is that the beach is public but the parking is not always free, and the rules change every few miles down A1A. A visitor can pay $25 for a day in Cocoa Beach, then drive twenty minutes south and park for nothing at a county park with better restrooms.

If you are relocating to the Space Coast, this matters more than it sounds. Where you buy determines which beach becomes your default beach, and whether you are paying a meter or walking over a dune crossover from a free lot. Here is how public beach access actually works in each town, straight from the cities and from Brevard County.

Which Space Coast beach parks have free parking?

Brevard County Parks and Recreation operates several oceanfront parks along the barrier island, and the county lists free parking at all of them. This is the single most useful thing to know about beach access in Brevard County.

Two of those county parks sit inside Cocoa Beach city limits, which produces the oddest quirk on the Space Coast: you can pay $6 an hour at a city lot and park for free at a county park a few blocks away. Brevard County manages 87 beach accesses countywide, according to Brevard County Parks and Recreation.

What does it cost to park at the beach in Cocoa Beach?

The City of Cocoa Beach charges $6 per hour with a one-hour minimum, or $25 for a full day, plus a $0.35 convenience fee when you pay through the app. Enforcement runs daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., including weekends and holidays. All city parking is paid through the Passport Parking app, and overnight parking is not permitted in city-managed areas. The city manages more than 1,600 spaces across its parks, street ends and the downtown garage.

The city also lists four oceanfront parks plus roughly 40 stub-end streets east of A1A, each with a dune crossover and metered spaces. Alan Shepard Park and Sidney Fisher Park are the two big city lots.

Annual permits are where Cocoa Beach residents come out ahead. A resident permit runs $20 per year, a non-resident permit is $75, and a business permit is $30. Permits are not valid at Shepard Park or the 22 N. Atlantic Avenue lot, and they do not extend the 90-minute limited spaces.

How does Satellite Beach handle beach parking?

Satellite Beach owns roughly 40 percent of its beachfront and maintains 17 beach crossovers, including three beach parks with parking, restrooms, showers and covered picnic tables. The city's beach parks page lays out the space counts: Pelican Beach Park has 131 spaces and an EV charger, Hightower Beach Park has 31, Shell Street Beach has 18, and Crotty Park has 13 paved plus about 45 unpaved.

Every Satellite Beach lot requires a pass or onsite payment, enforced 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., 365 days a year. Residents get a free biennial pass covering all lots. Non-residents can register for a free annual pass good at Pelican Beach and the Hightower East paved lot, or pay $75 a year for access to all lots. Passes must be applied for at least 72 hours in advance.

One rule that trips up visitors: Satellite Beach does not allow beach parking along A1A or on residential streets. If the lot is full, you are done.

Indialantic and Indian Harbour Beach

Indialantic runs metered parking at $3.50 per hour, every day including Sundays and holidays. Nance Park, the town's main ocean park at 201 N. Miramar Avenue, has 100 paved spaces, 96 of them metered, plus restrooms, exterior showers, two sand volleyball courts and dune crossovers. Sunrise Park up the road has 25 spaces and no restrooms.

The town sells an annual parking permit for $50 per calendar year, dropping to $40 if issued June 1 or later. It covers Wave Crest Avenue, Watson Drive, Tampa Avenue, Sixth Avenue and Nance Park. Cash or check only, at Town Hall.

Indian Harbour Beach started charging non-residents for beach parking on March 31, 2025 at Bicentennial Beach Park and Millennium Beach Park under Ordinance No. 2024-11. Residents park free but have to register their vehicles first. Call the city at 321-773-0552 for current rates before you go.

Where are the lifeguards on the Space Coast?

Brevard County Ocean Rescue staffs full-time towers daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Cocoa Beach Pier, Shepard Park, Lori Wilson Park, Minutemen Causeway and Paradise/Futch Park in north Indialantic. Seasonal towers open the last week of May, run weekends until Memorial Day, then daily until the first week of August, then weekends again through Labor Day. Satellite Beach and Indian Harbour Beach do not have county lifeguard towers. Worth knowing if you are buying with young kids in mind.

Beach rules that surprise people moving to Brevard County

  • You cannot drive on the beach. This is not Daytona. Brevard County Code makes it unlawful to operate a motor vehicle on public ocean beaches in unincorporated areas, and Cocoa Beach, Indialantic and Melbourne Beach all have their own bans.
  • Dogs are the exception, not the rule. Brevard County Code bars animals from public parks and beaches unless an area is specifically designated. Two designated spots: Canova Beach Park allows leashed dogs on the beach at no cost, and Cocoa Beach has a dog beach running from 4th Street South to the north side of Murkshe Park with posted morning and evening hours.
  • Beach fires require a permit and are seasonally banned. Brevard County prohibits fires on any beach from March 1 to November 1 for turtle nesting season, and a countywide burn ban has been in effect on top of that.
  • Canopies have size limits. Cocoa Beach caps tents at 10 feet by 10 feet, requires 10 feet of separation, and requires you to take everything with you when you leave.
