Extant Aerospace Breaks Ground on $75 Million Expansion in Melbourne FL

What is Extant Aerospace building in Melbourne, Florida?

Extant Aerospace broke ground in July 2026 on a more than $75 million manufacturing facility in Melbourne FL with over 376,000 square feet of operational space, expected to grow the company from more than 250 employees to over 450 on Florida's Space Coast.

Melbourne just got another very good piece of news. Extant Aerospace, a company whose roots in Brevard County go back more than sixty years, has broken ground on a new manufacturing facility that represents one of the largest private investments in the city in recent memory.

The Economic Development Commission of Florida's Space Coast announced the groundbreaking in July 2026, and the numbers tell a story of serious confidence in this area: an investment topping $75 million, more than 376,000 square feet of operational space, and roughly 200 new jobs on the way.

Here is what the expansion involves, why the company chose to stay in Melbourne, and what it means if you live here or are thinking about making the move.

NASA's Roman Space Telescope Will Launch from the Space Coast: Here's How to Watch

When does NASA's Roman Space Telescope launch from Florida's Space Coast?

NASA and SpaceX are targeting no earlier than Sunday, August 30, 2026 for the launch of the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope aboard a Falcon Heavy rocket from Launch Complex 39A at Kennedy Space Center on Florida's Space Coast.

Right now, inside the Payload Hazardous Servicing Facility at Kennedy Space Center, engineers are putting the finishing touches on one of the most ambitious scientific instruments NASA has ever built. The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, the agency's next flagship observatory, is in its final weeks of launch preparation, and it is happening right here in Brevard County.

For those of us who live on the Space Coast, launches are part of the rhythm of life. A flagship observatory launch is a different kind of event, though. When NASA sent the James Webb Space Telescope into deep space in 2021, it lifted off from French Guiana in South America. This time, the show belongs to Florida, and everyone in Brevard County has a front-row seat.
