If you are relocating for NASA Kennedy Space Center, SpaceX, Blue Origin, L3Harris, or Patrick Space Force Base, this is the guide. Where to live, what the commutes look like, and the neighborhoods aerospace pros gravitate toward.
Brevard County is one of the most concentrated aerospace economies in the country. NASA Kennedy Space Center, Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Patrick Space Force Base, SpaceX, Blue Origin, L3Harris Technologies, Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Sierra Space, Firefly, and a long roster of contractors and suppliers. If you are coming here for a new role, you are landing in a market built around the work you do.
Best commute from Titusville (15 min), Mims (15-20 min), Port St John (25 min), Cocoa (30 min). Merritt Island (25 min) for buyers who want beach access and a shorter drive than Cocoa Beach.
Cape Canaveral itself, Cocoa Beach, Merritt Island. 10-25 min commutes. Some Cocoa and Rockledge buyers as well.
Same map as SpaceX. Cape Canaveral, Cocoa Beach, Merritt Island. Engineering management often ends up in Suntree or Viera with a longer commute.
Viera (15 min), Suntree (10 min), West Melbourne (15 min), Palm Bay (5 min). Best Brevard footprint for Melbourne-based work.
Satellite Beach (5 min), Indian Harbour Beach (10 min), Indialantic (15 min), Suntree (15 min). Beachside is the standard pick.
Cocoa Beach, Cape Canaveral, Merritt Island. Same map as SpaceX/Blue Origin.
Brevard is a long, narrow county. Driving from north Brevard (Titusville) to south Brevard (Palm Bay) is about 65 miles and takes over an hour. Most aerospace pros pick a home that puts their primary work site within 30 minutes drive.
The big choke points: SR 528 (Cocoa to Cape Canaveral) backs up at shift change. US 1 in north Brevard during a launch can be slow. I-95 between Cocoa and Melbourne moves well at most hours.
If your role requires a security clearance, your background investigation can take 6 to 18 months. Plan housing accordingly: a short-term rental for the first 60 to 90 days while you settle in, then a purchase once you understand the area and your role timeline.
If your start date is tight, a furnished month-to-month rental in Suntree, Viera, or beachside is your best buying-time strategy. We can connect you to relocation-friendly options.
Many aerospace pros relocate every 2 to 5 years. Buy with resale in mind. Stick to the most established neighborhoods, the strongest school districts, and avoid new-construction quirks that may not be valued by the next aerospace family rolling in.
Many relocation companies will tell you that you have to use one of their agents. In reality, they can almost always set up your preferred REALTOR® instead. We are happy to sign the paperwork with your relocation company. Just tell your coordinator you want to work with us.
Top-rated schools. Master-planned. Most popular with engineering families. Reasonable to KSC, L3Harris, Patrick.
Established. Closer than Viera to Patrick and L3Harris. Strong resale.
Best of both worlds for KSC, SpaceX, Blue Origin: water access plus 15-25 min commutes.
For pros who want surf-town living and the shortest commute to the Cape pads.
For broader Brevard town context, see our relocation hub or any of the individual town pages.
Aerospace relocation is one of my specialties. I understand the timeline pressure, the clearance process, the resale calculus, and the lifestyle priorities. If you are stepping into a new role at one of the Space Coast primes or a contractor, you have someone here who has done this before with people just like you.
Tell us your employer and your start date and we can outline timing, neighborhoods, and a relocation plan in one call.
