It is the weekend right after Memorial Day on the Space Coast, the beaches are still busy, the tourists have mostly gone home, and the summer rhythm is setting in. Here is what is actually worth doing in Brevard County the weekend of Friday May 29 through Sunday May 31, 2026, plus a few standing options that locals lean on every weekend of the year.

Friday Night, May 29

Friday Fest in Downtown Melbourne

If you have never been, Friday Fest takes over a stretch of New Haven Avenue in downtown historic Melbourne on the first Friday of every month, with bands, food trucks, and a beer garden. The May edition lands on the 29th this year. Stroll the storefronts, grab dinner at Ichabod's or Matt's Casbah, and stay for live music as the sun sets over the Eau Gallie corridor.

Sunset at the Cocoa Beach Pier

The pier is open late, the Tiki Bar at the end is full of locals, and the sunset over the Banana River from the parking lot is one of the most underrated views in Brevard. Pier admission is free. Parking is paid but easy.

Saturday, May 30

Downtown Melbourne Farmers Market

Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on East New Haven Avenue. Local produce, baked goods, hot sauces, soaps, plants, and live music. It is the most consistent farmers market in the county and a great way to spend a couple of hours before the heat sets in.

Brevard Zoo in Viera

The zoo is a true year-round Space Coast staple. The Treetop Trek, the kayak tours through the Expedition Africa loop, and the new Aquarium and Conservation Center make it one of the best half-day options for families visiting from out of town or for parents looking to wear kids out before noon. Plan to be there at opening, 9:30 a.m., to beat both the lines and the heat.

Lori Wilson Park, Cocoa Beach

This is the locals' beach when the tourists have gone home. Free parking, shaded picnic areas, easy boardwalks, and one of the few stretches of Cocoa Beach with bathrooms and outdoor showers. Bring chairs and an umbrella, the wind off the Atlantic in late May is glorious but the sun is no joke.

Manatee Sanctuary Park, Cape Canaveral

A quiet alternative to the beach. The boardwalk juts into the Banana River and manatees are still hanging around in late May before the water gets too warm. Free parking, free admission, and a great place to take a phone call you cannot get out of.

Sunday, May 31

Brunch in the Eau Gallie Arts District

The EGAD neighborhood between US-1 and the Indian River has quietly become one of the best brunch corridors in Brevard. Foo Bar, Pineda Crossing, and the Crush Eleven kitchen are all walkable from each other. Park once, eat, and walk it off looking at the murals.

Kayak Launch at Kelly Park, Merritt Island

The launch at Kelly Park East puts you straight into the Banana River with views of the Kennedy Space Center on the horizon. Calm water in the early morning, dolphin sightings are not unusual, and you can be off the water before the afternoon thunderstorms roll in. Bring your own kayak or rent from one of the operators near the causeway.

Sebastian Inlet State Park (South Brevard)

Technically the inlet straddles the Brevard / Indian River County line, but the north side is in Brevard and it is one of the best beach days in the state. Snorkeling on the south jetty, surfing on the north, and fishing from the catwalk. $8 per vehicle and worth every penny.

Standing Weekend Options on the Space Coast

If the events above do not fit your schedule, these run essentially every weekend:

  • Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex: Open daily, the launch schedule changes constantly. Check the launch calendar before you go because a scheduled liftoff turns the whole experience up a level.
  • Ron Jon Surf Shop, Cocoa Beach: Open 24 hours. A tourist landmark, but locals send out-of-towners here for a reason. Free parking across the street.
  • Riverfront Park, Cocoa Village: Tree-lined park along the Indian River with a playground, picnic areas, and easy access to the shops and restaurants of historic Cocoa Village.
  • Honest John's Fish Camp, Melbourne Beach: Rent a boat or kayak, pack a cooler, and disappear into the Indian River Lagoon for the day.
  • Wickham Park, Melbourne: 400-plus acres, dog park, disc golf, paved trails, and the county's main amphitheater for outdoor concerts.

Planning Tips for a Space Coast Weekend

  • Start beach mornings early. By 11 a.m. in late May, the sand is hot enough that you want shoes.
  • Watch the afternoon storms. A typical Brevard summer day brings a 30 to 45 minute thunderstorm between 2 and 5 p.m. Plan indoor activities or a long lunch into that window.
  • Causeway traffic on Saturdays is real. If you are headed to Cocoa Beach from the mainland, cross before 10 a.m. or after 3 p.m. to avoid the bridge backup at the Bennett Causeway.
  • Bring cash for free events. A lot of the small downtown markets and pop-ups still take cash faster than cards.
