Daily commute reality

Commuting from Brevard County to Orlando

Some buyers are willing to do a longer commute for the Brevard lifestyle and lower cost of housing. Here is what that drive actually looks like, day in and day out.

The two routes

SR-528 (Beachline)

Toll road. Direct shot from north Brevard (Cocoa, Cape Canaveral) to Orlando International Airport area and downtown. Lighter traffic. Tolls roughly $5-$7 each way.

I-95 to I-4 or SR-417

From south or central Brevard. Longer but no tolls if you stay on I-95. Most buyers from Viera, Suntree, and Melbourne use this route.

Realistic drive times to Orlando central

  • Cocoa or Cape Canaveral via 528: 50-70 min depending on traffic
  • Merritt Island via 528: 55-75 min
  • Viera via I-95 to 528: 60-75 min
  • Melbourne via I-95 to 528: 75-90 min
  • Palm Bay via I-95: 90-105 min

Add 15-20 min during morning rush hours and Friday afternoons. Subtract 5-10 min for outside-rush hours.

Best Brevard towns for Orlando commuters

Cocoa or Rockledge

Easiest 528 access. 50-60 min commute. Great if work is at MCO airport or east Orlando.

Viera

Top schools and amenities. 65-75 min commute. The most popular pick for Orlando families willing to commute.

Suntree

Established. 65-75 min commute. Lower price than Viera.

Titusville

North Brevard. Cheaper homes. 528 access. 60-70 min to Orlando central. Best for north Orlando employers.

Hybrid and remote options

Most Brevard-to-Orlando commuters are hybrid (2-3 days in office). The math changes dramatically when you only do that drive twice a week instead of five. Many remote workers from Orlando-headquartered companies have moved to Brevard for the lifestyle, accepting an occasional drive for in-office days.

If you have to be in Orlando every day, plan for the full commute reality. If you can hybrid or remote, Brevard becomes a much more comfortable choice.

A note from Rachel

Test drive the commute

Before committing to a Brevard-to-Orlando commute, drive it on a real Tuesday morning at your real start time. The map estimate is rarely the real-life experience. The Brevard buyers who do this commute well went in with eyes open.
